About the role
HinduTone publishes festival explainers, temple pages, daily panchang, careers content and community stories in English, Hindi and Telugu. Readers come to us with very specific questions: when is Ekadashi this month, which temple near me opens early, what does a Telugu festival ritual involve. Answering those questions well is increasingly an AI problem, and we want an AI Engineer in Hyderabad to own it.
You will design, build and ship AI features across the HinduTone website: better search, useful recommendations, automatic content tagging and multilingual assistants that respect the cultural context of what we publish. The work spans prompt and retrieval design, evaluation, and careful deployment so that nothing misleading reaches a reader. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Hyderabad.
The role suits someone who has already built AI or ML-backed applications and enjoys the full journey from a rough prototype to a feature that real people rely on every day. If you care about accuracy, multilingual quality and measured rollouts more than flashy demos, you will fit in well.
What you will do
- Build semantic and hybrid search over our festival, temple, panchang and careers content so readers find the right page even with loosely worded queries.
- Design recommendation logic that suggests related articles, nearby temples or upcoming festivals based on what a reader is viewing.
- Create content tagging pipelines that classify articles by deity, festival, region, language and topic, with human review for edge cases.
- Prototype and ship multilingual assistants that can answer reader questions in English, Hindi and Telugu, grounded in our published content.
- Set up retrieval pipelines (chunking, embeddings, re-ranking) and tune them for mixed-script and transliterated queries.
- Write evaluation sets and scoring scripts so that every model or prompt change is measured before it goes live.
- Add safety checks: grounding, refusal of out-of-scope questions, filtering of harmful or culturally insensitive output.
- Work with the editorial team to turn their knowledge of festivals and traditions into test cases and review guidelines.
- Monitor latency, cost and answer quality in production, and roll back quickly when something degrades.
- Document design decisions, prompts and evaluation results so others on the team can maintain the features.
- Review new AI tools and model releases with a sceptical eye, adopting them only when they clearly improve reader experience.
Skills we are looking for
Must have
- Hands-on experience building AI or ML-backed applications that went beyond a notebook.
- Strong Python, including writing clean, testable services and data-processing code.
- Practical understanding of large language models, embeddings, vector search and retrieval-augmented generation.
- Experience designing evaluations: test sets, metrics, human review loops and regression checks.
- Comfort working with APIs, databases and JSON data at a production level.
- Clear written communication, especially when explaining trade-offs to non-technical colleagues.
Good to have
- Experience with Indian languages, transliteration or multilingual NLP.
- Familiarity with recommendation systems or learning-to-rank.
- Exposure to content moderation, safety filters or responsible AI practices.
- Some experience with Docker, CI pipelines and cloud deployment.
- Interest in Hindu festivals, temples or regional culture, which makes judging output quality much easier.
Who should apply
We are looking for engineers with a degree in computer science, IT, data science or a related field, or equivalent practical skills shown through shipped projects. What matters most is that you have built and deployed at least one AI or ML-backed application and can talk through how you measured whether it worked.
You should be comfortable working in a hybrid setup, spending part of the week with the team in Hyderabad and part of it from home. Candidates who read or speak Hindi or Telugu will find the multilingual side of the work more natural, though it is not a strict requirement. We value people who ask careful questions about data quality and who are happy to say that a feature is not ready yet when the numbers say so.
How you will grow
This role carries real ownership. You will decide how search, tagging and assistant features are structured, which evaluation methods we trust, and when a feature is ready for readers. Because HinduTone covers three languages and a wide range of cultural topics, you will face problems that generic tutorials do not cover: mixed-script queries, region-specific festival dates and content where accuracy carries cultural weight.
Over time you can shape how the wider team approaches AI work, from review standards to rollout practices. You will work closely with editors, developers and the careers team, which gives you a broad view of how a digital publication actually runs. You will also have room to propose new AI-backed features for the temple, festival and community sections when you see a clear reader need.
Preparing your application
- Share links to one or two AI or ML-backed projects you built, with a short note on your exact contribution.
- Describe how you evaluated one of those projects: the test set, the metrics and what changed after you measured it.
- If you have worked on search or retrieval, explain the chunking, embedding and ranking choices you made and why.
- Mention any multilingual or Indian-language work, even small experiments.
- Include one example of a failure or bad output you caught before release and how you fixed it.
- Keep the resume focused on shipped work rather than long lists of libraries.
Before the interview
Our write-up on AI engineer roles and what employers expect covers the skills and project types that come up most often in conversations like ours. It is worth brushing up on retrieval-augmented generation, evaluation design and how you would handle multilingual search, since those topics are central to this role.
