About the role

HinduTone publishes festival explainers, temple pages, daily panchang and community stories in English, Hindi and Telugu, and readers tend to arrive in sharp waves. A festival morning, an eclipse or a big Telugu holiday can bring many people to the site within the same hour. We are hiring a DevOps Engineer to keep the HinduTone website fast, stable and easy to release, so that editors can publish with confidence and readers never notice the machinery behind the pages.

This is a hands-on engineering position, not a ticket-forwarding desk. You will own the path a change takes from a Git commit to a live page, look after the servers and services that run the site, and make sure that when something does break, we know quickly and recover cleanly. The role suits someone who already has real DevOps, CI/CD or infrastructure experience, who enjoys tidy automation, and who likes working closely with developers and content people. You will be based in Hyderabad on a hybrid pattern, with some days at the office and some from home.

What you will do

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions or Jenkins that test, build and release changes to the HinduTone website and its English, Hindi and Telugu sections.
  • Design release steps for zero-downtime deploys, including health checks, staged swaps and a clear rollback path.
  • Write and review Dockerfiles, keep images small and patched, and decide what should and should not run in containers.
  • Administer Linux servers: users, permissions, packages, disk, systemd units, cron jobs and kernel updates.
  • Configure Nginx for routing, caching, compression, redirects and TLS, and tune it for traffic spikes around festival dates.
  • Run application processes under a process manager, with sensible restart rules, log rotation and resource limits.
  • Set up monitoring, alerting and centralised logging so that slow pages, error bursts and full disks are caught early.
  • Plan, automate and regularly test backups of databases, uploads and configuration, and write down how a restore actually works.
  • Bring SRE habits to the team: service level goals for key pages, blameless incident notes and small fixes that remove repeat problems.
  • Keep secrets, SSH keys and access lists in order, and close off services that do not need to be exposed.
  • Write runbooks clear enough that a colleague can follow them at night without calling you.
  • Support developers and editors when a deploy, a redirect or a cache problem gets in the way of publishing.

Skills we are looking for

Must have

  • Practical experience running Linux servers in production, and comfort working entirely in the shell.
  • Solid Git skills, including branching, rebasing, tags and reading history to find what changed.
  • Hands-on work with Docker and at least one CI/CD tool such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
  • Working knowledge of Nginx or a similar web server and reverse proxy.
  • Scripting in Bash, plus Python or another language for small automation tasks.
  • Experience setting up monitoring and logs, and using them to explain an outage.
  • A careful attitude to backups, access control and change management.

Good to have

  • Experience with Node.js or Python web applications and the process managers that run them.
  • Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including dumps, restores and basic tuning.
  • Exposure to a public cloud, infrastructure as code or configuration tools like Ansible.
  • Understanding of CDNs, HTTP caching headers and how they affect search engines and page speed.
  • Experience with multilingual or content-heavy websites.

Who should apply

This role is for people with hands-on DevOps, CI/CD or infrastructure experience. A degree in computer science, IT or a related field is welcome, but equivalent practical skills matter just as much; many good DevOps engineers came through system administration, support or development work. You should be able to point to systems you have actually run, pipelines you have built or incidents you have helped resolve. Because the role is hybrid, you should be able to come to our Hyderabad office on the agreed days and work well on your own on the days you are at home.

If you are still a student or have just graduated, please look at our DevOps Engineer (Fresher) and DevOps Intern positions instead, which are set up for learning.

How you will grow

You will have real ownership. The way HinduTone builds, ships and watches its website will be shaped by your decisions, and you will be expected to explain those decisions to non-specialists in plain words. Over time you can take the lead on reliability for the whole publishing stack, from the first commit to the reader's browser.

You will also work across an unusual mix of problems: heavy seasonal traffic, three languages, large numbers of temple and calendar pages, and editors who publish on tight festival deadlines. That gives you room to try better caching, cleaner release flows and sharper alerting, and to see the effect on real readers quickly. If you enjoy mentoring, there will be chances to help junior colleagues and interns learn good habits.

Preparing your application

  • Lead your resume with two or three systems you have run in production, and say what you were responsible for.
  • Describe one CI/CD pipeline you built or improved, including what it tested, how it released and how it rolled back.
  • Share a short incident write-up, with names removed, covering what broke, how you found out and what you changed afterwards.
  • Link to public repositories with Dockerfiles, workflow files or automation scripts you wrote, if you have them.
  • Mention the monitoring and logging tools you have used and one alert you designed that proved useful.
  • Note your backup and restore experience, especially any time you had to restore for real.

Before the interview

We like candidates who can talk about how DevOps work feels day to day, not just list tools, and our overview of DevOps careers and what employers test is a useful refresher even for experienced people. Brush up on Linux troubleshooting, Git workflows, Docker image design, Nginx configuration and how you would release a change without dropping a single request.

How to apply

Share your updated resume with your relevant experience, key skills and links to work you can show, such as GitHub repositories, deployed projects or technical write-ups.
