About the role

College labs teach you commands; a working website teaches you why they matter. HinduTone is offering a paid DevOps Intern position, with a stipend, for students and recent graduates who want to see how a multilingual publication keeps its English, Hindi and Telugu pages online and up to date.

As an intern you will work on a small set of practical projects, each with a clear goal and a mentor who reviews your work. You might start by packaging a small service in a container, then write the workflow that tests it, then set up a check that tells us when it goes down. Nothing you do will be pushed to readers without review, so you can experiment, make mistakes and learn from them safely. This internship suits people who enjoy tinkering with Linux, like understanding how things work behind a web page and want something concrete to show at their next interview. It is based in Hyderabad on a hybrid pattern, mixing office days with days at home.

What you will do

  • Containerise a small internal service or tool with Docker, and document how to build and run it.
  • Write a simple CI workflow that runs tests or checks whenever code is pushed.
  • Set up uptime checks for a few important pages and learn how alerts are routed to the right person.
  • Practise everyday Linux tasks such as working with files, permissions, processes and service logs.
  • Document deploy steps for a service in plain language, so a new team member could follow them.
  • Read real log files with a mentor and learn to spot errors, slow requests and unusual traffic.
  • Take part in short weekly reviews where you show what you built and what you learnt.
  • Keep a learning journal of commands, mistakes and fixes that you can refer back to.
  • Pair with a mentor on a small real task, such as checking a failed build or reading a deploy log, and explain what you found.

Skills we are looking for

Must have

  • Basic familiarity with the Linux terminal and willingness to use it every day.
  • A beginner's understanding of Git, such as committing and pushing to a repository.
  • Some programming or scripting experience in any language.
  • Curiosity, patience and the habit of asking questions when something is unclear.
  • Good written communication for notes and documentation.

Good to have

  • Any personal or college project involving Docker, a VPS or a cloud free tier.
  • A first look at YAML files or CI tools like GitHub Actions.
  • Basic networking ideas such as ports, DNS and HTTP status codes.
  • Interest in Hindu culture, festivals or Indian languages, which makes the content you support more meaningful.

Who should apply

This internship is for students and recent graduates. Final-year students in computer science, IT, electronics or a related field are a natural fit, and so are recent graduates from other streams who have taught themselves Linux and want structured practice. You do not need prior work experience. What matters is that you have tried things on your own, whether a home server, a lab exercise or a small project, and want to go further.

You should be able to attend our Hyderabad office on the agreed days and manage your time well on the days you work from home. Please make sure the internship schedule fits around your college commitments before you apply.

What you will learn

You will leave with a clear picture of how a website moves from code to readers: how containers are built, how pipelines run, how checks raise alerts and why every step needs to be written down. You will also learn habits that employers value, such as working in small reviewed changes, writing readable documentation and checking your work before calling it done.

Your mentor will help you turn each project into something you can explain in an interview, with a short write-up and the files you created. Along the way you will see how a content team and a technology team work together, for example when a festival page needs to go live on time or a broken redirect affects readers. That context helps you understand why DevOps work exists in the first place, and why calm, careful changes matter more than clever ones.

Interns who do strong, reliable work may be considered for open positions at HinduTone when they arise, though the internship is mainly about learning.

Preparing your application

  • Share a GitHub profile or repository, even a small one, with scripts or projects you wrote.
  • Describe one Linux or Docker exercise you tried at home or in college, and what you learnt from it.
  • Mention your course, year of study or graduation year, and the days you can attend the office.
  • If you have written notes, a blog post or a lab report on a technical topic, include it.
  • Tell us in two or three lines why you want a DevOps internship rather than a general software one.
  • If you have tried GitHub Actions, a free cloud tier or a home server, add one line on what you set up and what broke.

Before the interview

To get a sense of what interns usually work on and what interviewers ask, read our notes on DevOps internships and how to prepare. It also helps to revise basic Linux commands, what a container is, and what happens when you push code to a repository with a CI workflow attached.
