About the role
Short vertical videos are now how many people first meet a temple, a mantra or a festival story. HinduTone has scripts and footage ready for such videos and needs skilled hands to turn them into polished, respectful shorts and reels. We are looking for a Freelance Video Editor (Shorts and Reels) to edit assigned videos.
This is a freelance opportunity. You work from home, and applicants anywhere in India are welcome. HinduTone is the employer for these assignments, and you are paid per assignment. The rate is discussed with shortlisted freelancers.
You will edit assigned shorts and reels from HinduTone scripts and footage for festivals, temples and mantras. You will add subtitles and simple graphics and use only licensed or copyright-free music and footage. The work suits editors who already have a portfolio of short-form vertical videos, are comfortable with subtitles and can turn around a video quickly without losing quality. Devotional content calls for a calm, dignified look and feel, so taste and restraint are as important as software skills.
What you will do
- Edit vertical videos for Shorts and Reels from HinduTone scripts, voice-overs and footage.
- Cut each video to the length and pacing described in the brief, with a clear opening and ending.
- Add accurate subtitles, checking the spelling of deity names, Sanskrit words and place names.
- Add simple graphics, text overlays and lower-thirds that match the HinduTone look.
- Balance audio, reduce background noise and keep the voice-over clear above the music.
- Use only licensed or copyright-free music and footage, and note the source of each asset for the editor.
- Export in the correct format, aspect ratio and file size for the platform named in the brief.
- Prepare a cover frame or simple thumbnail if the brief asks for one.
- Revise the video after feedback and send updated files by the agreed time.
- Tell the editor early if footage is missing, unclear or looks unsuitable to use.
Skills we are looking for
Must have
- A portfolio of short-form vertical videos you have edited.
- Working skill in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut or similar editing software.
- Comfort adding and checking subtitles, ideally in an Indian language along with English.
- Understanding of copyright for music, images and footage.
- Ability to deliver quickly while keeping quality steady.
- Willingness to take feedback politely and revise.
Good to have
- Basic motion graphics or After Effects skills.
- Experience with devotional, travel, documentary or explainer content.
- Skill in designing thumbnails.
- Knowledge of Hindu festivals and temple traditions.
- Your own reliable computer, storage and internet connection for transferring video files.
Language and portfolio skills
For this role, the reel you send is more important than a certificate. We look for clean cuts, steady pacing, readable subtitles and an understanding of how a short video holds attention without being noisy.
Your portfolio should show vertical videos of the kind you would make for us. Good examples include explainers, travel stories, news clips or reels that use subtitles well. Students, self-taught editors, agency editors and creators who also take freelance work are all welcome.
Subtitle skill is a major part of the job. If you can type and check subtitles in Hindi or Telugu as well as English, mention that clearly. Even if you cannot, you should be careful with spelling and willing to confirm names and terms with the editor. You need a computer that can handle video editing and a stable internet connection to send and receive files.
Good freelancers for this work are dependable more than flashy. A video that is ready on the day agreed, with correct names and clean audio, is worth more to us than one with elaborate effects that arrives late. If you like working from a clear brief and enjoy the discipline of short formats, you will find these assignments rewarding.
How assignments work
Each assignment begins with a brief from a HinduTone editor, which includes the script or voice-over, the footage, the platform, the target length and any style notes. The deadline is agreed for each assignment, because festival videos often have a short window and the timing must suit you as well.
You send a draft for review. The editor may ask for changes in cuts, subtitles, graphics or audio, and you revise them within a reasonable time. Only licensed or copyright-free music and footage may be used, and you tell us where each asset came from. We cannot use clips taken from other creators or songs from popular films.
Credit policy is discussed per assignment. Payment is per assignment and is discussed with shortlisted freelancers.
It helps to tell us how many videos you can comfortably handle in a week, so that assignments can be offered at a pace that works for you and the quality stays high. Festival periods are busier, and we will try to share expected dates in advance where possible.
Preparing your application
- A short resume or profile that lists your editing software and the types of videos you have made.
- A link to a reel or playlist with at least five short-form vertical videos, naming your role in each.
- One before and after example, if you have it, showing how you improved a raw clip.
- A subtitle sample, preferably in Hindi or Telugu as well as English, if you have one.
- A note on where you find licensed or copyright-free music and footage.
- Your city or state, and the usual time you take to finish a one-minute short.
