About the role
Behind a quick search for the date of a festival lies a bigger need: readers want a trustworthy explanation of what the festival means, how it is observed in different regions, which temples hold special celebrations and how families abroad can take part. HinduTone is hiring an English Content Writer (Hindu Culture and Festivals) to write that kind of long-form material.
This is a full-time, hybrid role in Hyderabad, Telangana. You will research and write detailed English guides on Hindu festivals, temples in India and abroad, NRI community life and traditions, and you will update our evergreen pages each season so that they stay accurate.
We are hiring because English is where many NRI readers, students and researchers begin, and our English section needs depth as well as freshness. The role suits a writer with strong English, curiosity about culture and a patient research habit. One or more years of content writing, journalism or editing is preferred. You will work with the SEO and translation teams, so your writing should be clear enough to be adapted into Hindi and Telugu without losing meaning.
What you will do
- Research and write long-form English articles on festivals, rituals, temples and traditions from editorial briefs.
- Explain regional differences in how a festival is observed, without presenting one custom as the only correct one.
- Write features on temples in India and abroad, using official temple information and other reliable sources.
- Cover NRI community life, such as how families outside India observe festivals, find temples and teach traditions to children.
- Check festival dates, tithi and timing against reliable panchang and official sources, and note which date applies in which country.
- Update evergreen pages every season, including dates, links, images and outdated statements.
- Work with the SEO team on search intent, headings and internal links, while writing for people first.
- Prepare clean, simple English that translators can adapt into Hindi and Telugu.
- Edit contributor drafts and give constructive feedback to junior writers when asked.
- Keep a source list for every article and respond promptly to editor queries.
- Avoid medical, financial or astrological promises, and present religious practices respectfully and neutrally.
Skills we are looking for
Must have
- Strong written English with accurate grammar, structure and tone.
- Ability to research a topic across several reliable sources and summarise it clearly.
- Working knowledge of Hindu festivals, mythology and temple traditions, or a strong willingness to learn quickly.
- Respect for tradition and sensitivity to differences between regions and communities.
- Care with dates, names and spellings.
- Comfort with deadlines and editorial feedback.
Good to have
- One or more years of content writing, journalism, editing or research experience.
- Basic understanding of SEO and how long-form content ranks.
- Familiarity with a content management system such as WordPress.
- Reading knowledge of Hindi, Telugu or Sanskrit.
- Experience writing for NRI or diaspora audiences.
Who should apply
We prefer candidates with one or more years of experience in content writing, journalism or editing. A degree in English, journalism, history, religious studies, mass communication or a related field is helpful, though equivalent practical writing skills are equally welcome.
You might be a journalist who wants to focus on culture, a content writer who has covered travel or lifestyle and wants subject depth, or an editor who loves long-form research. If you can show published English work that explains a complex topic simply, please apply.
You should be able to work from Hyderabad on a hybrid basis, with office days for editorial planning and some days from home.
People who enjoy reading widely tend to do well here. If you already follow temple news, keep notes on festival customs or enjoy explaining tradition to younger relatives, that curiosity will show in your writing. We value patience with sources more than speed, and clear sentences more than ornate ones.
How you will grow
This position gives you ownership of the English cultural section, one of the most visible parts of HinduTone. You will begin with assigned features and, as the editors gain confidence in your research, you will help plan the seasonal calendar and decide which evergreen pages need rewriting.
You will learn how a multilingual publication works, how to write once for several audiences and how SEO shapes structure without damaging quality. Maintaining long-lived pages will also build your skill in editing, fact-checking and version control. The subject knowledge you gain in festivals, temples and community history can support future work in publishing, research or cultural communication.
You will also see how readers respond to your work through feedback from the team and simple traffic reports, and use this to decide what to expand next. Good long-form writing improves with that loop of writing, measuring and revising, and we will help you build the habit.
Preparing your application
- A resume that highlights your writing or editing experience, with links to published work.
- Three to five long-form English samples, preferably on culture, religion, travel, history or explanatory topics.
- A short outline of an article you would propose for an upcoming festival, with the sources you would use.
- An example of how you verified a fact or date in earlier work.
- A note on any NRI, temple or community research experience.
- Details of other languages you read or write.
