Diwali 2026 in Kuwait: Dates, Lakshmi Puja Muhurat and Where to Celebrate
Lakshmi Puja in Kuwait falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, with the Vrishabha muhurat from 5:20 PM to 7:16 PM in Kuwait City. Here are the five days, city timings and how the community celebrates.
Quick answer: in Kuwait, Lakshmi Puja (main Diwali) is on Sunday 8 November 2026, and the Kuwait City muhurat is 5:20 PM to 7:16 PM Kuwait time. Dhanteras is on Friday 6 November, Govardhan Puja on Monday 9 November and Bhai Dooj on Tuesday 10 November. Kuwait has no public Hindu temple that we could confirm, so most families celebrate at home, with community and embassy gatherings around the festival.
Editor's note (1 November 2026): HinduTone calculated these local dates from Drik Panchang tithi times using Drik's own rules for each festival, and checked our method against Drik's published dates for 15 countries. The Lakshmi Puja muhurat is the Vrishabha (Taurus) lagna that falls within Pradosh Kaal, following the Drik method, worked out for each city's sunset. We do not list event schedules, because they change every year; temples and community groups usually announce Diwali programmes a few weeks ahead, so check their websites and social pages. Most calendars give the dates shown here, but some local calendars may list the neighbouring day, so follow your temple, priest or community group.
Diwali 2026 dates in Kuwait
These are the five days of Diwali for Kuwait City. The same dates apply across Kuwait.
| Day | Date | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Dhanteras | Friday 6 November | Buying new utensils, gold or silver; lamp for Yama at dusk |
| Naraka Chaturdashi (Choti Diwali) | Sunday 8 November | Early oil bath (abhyang snan), victory of Krishna over Narakasura |
| Lakshmi Puja (main Diwali) | Sunday 8 November | Evening worship of Lakshmi and Ganesha, lighting of diyas |
| Govardhan Puja / Annakut | Monday 9 November | Offering of food to Krishna as Govardhan; New Year for many Gujarati families |
| Bhai Dooj | Tuesday 10 November | Sisters pray for their brothers, who visit and bring gifts |
Naraka Chaturdashi and Lakshmi Puja fall on the same day in Kuwait this year. Amavasya in Kuwait runs from Sun 8 Nov, 8:57 AM to Mon 9 Nov, 10:01 AM local time (11:27 AM 8 Nov to 12:31 PM 9 Nov IST), so the evening of Sunday 8 November is the only evening with Amavasya during Pradosh Kaal. That is why Lakshmi Puja is on Sunday, and why Naraka Chaturdashi's pre-dawn bath also falls on Sunday morning.

Lakshmi Puja muhurat in Kuwait explained
Lakshmi Puja is done in the evening of Amavasya, during Pradosh Kaal, the window of about two and a half hours that begins at sunset. In Kuwait City sunset on 8 November is at 4:57 PM, so Pradosh Kaal runs from 4:57 PM to 7:35 PM.
Within Pradosh, the most favoured time is when Vrishabha (Taurus) lagna is rising. Vrishabha is a fixed (sthir) sign, and worship in a fixed lagna is believed to make Lakshmi's blessings stay in the home. In Kuwait City Vrishabha lagna rises from 5:20 PM to 7:16 PM, which is the muhurat we give.
- Sunset: 4:57 PM
- Pradosh Kaal: 4:57 PM – 7:35 PM
- Lakshmi Puja muhurat (Vrishabha within Pradosh): 5:20 PM – 7:16 PM
- Amavasya (local): Sun 8 Nov, 8:57 AM → Mon 9 Nov, 10:01 AM
If you cannot begin by 7:16 PM, do the puja anywhere within Pradosh Kaal. If work runs late, a sincere puja later in the evening is still better than none; many families in the Gulf do exactly that.
India's own muhurat times are different because sunset there is at a different moment. Use the Kuwait times above, not a time copied from an Indian calendar.
Hindu temples in Kuwait for Diwali
We searched for Hindu temples in Kuwait and could not confirm any public, officially recognised Hindu temple in the country. Puja takes place mainly in homes and in private gatherings organised by community groups. We have named only places we could confirm, and we have not padded the list.
Kuwait City and nationwide
- Embassy of India, Kuwait (Kuwait City). The embassy has hosted Diwali get-togethers and cultural evenings with the Indian community in past years, and it is a good first point of contact for finding registered Indian community associations.
- BAPS Kuwait Satsang Mandal (Kuwait). The BAPS Swaminarayan satsang group in Kuwait has held festival celebrations such as Swaminarayan Jayanti and Ram Navami, and BAPS sadhus have visited the Kuwait satsang on Gulf tours.
Beyond these, many regional Indian associations (Gujarati, Malayali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Sindhi and others) bring families together for festivals. Ask colleagues, your building's community group or your children's school which associations are active near you. Temples and community groups usually announce Diwali programmes a few weeks ahead; check their websites and social pages.
If you cannot find a gathering, a home puja is entirely complete in itself. Lakshmi Puja has always been, first of all, a household worship.
How Diwali is celebrated in Kuwait
Kuwait has one of the largest Indian communities in the Gulf, made up mostly of working professionals and families who came from the 20th century onwards for jobs in oil, construction, healthcare, trade and services. Hindus are a large part of that community, alongside Indian Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and Jains. Nepali and Sri Lankan Hindu workers also mark the season in their own ways.
Because there is no public temple, Diwali in Kuwait is largely a home and community festival. Families clean and decorate their flats, draw rangoli at the door, light diyas or electric lamps, and do Lakshmi and Ganesha puja in the evening. Friends visit with boxes of sweets, and many households cook together, with mithai and savouries from every region of India. Gujarati families mark the New Year on Govardhan day, and South Indian families often keep Naraka Chaturdashi as their main Deepavali morning, with an early oil bath and new clothes.
Community programmes, when held, typically include a group aarti, bhajans, cultural dances, children's performances and a shared meal. Indian schools and offices sometimes hold small celebrations too. Sikh families mark Bandi Chhor Divas on the same evening, and Jain families observe Diwali as the nirvana of Bhagwan Mahavira.
Be respectful of Kuwait's laws and customs: keep celebrations within your home or the venue the organisers have arranged, and keep music and decorations considerate of neighbours.
Simple Lakshmi Puja at home
This short vidhi works for any family. Follow your own family tradition where it differs.
- Clean the home, especially the entrance and the puja corner. Draw a rangoli and place a few diyas at the door.
- Set a clean cloth on a low table. Place images or murtis of Lakshmi and Ganesha, a kalash of water with mango or betel leaves and a coconut, and some coins or jewellery.
- Bathe and wear clean or new clothes. Light the main ghee lamp and incense.
- Begin with Ganesha: offer flowers, kumkum and rice, and chant Om Gam Ganapataye Namah.
- Worship Lakshmi with flowers, kumkum, haldi, rice, sweets and fruit. Chant Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah, or read the Shri Suktam or Lakshmi Ashtakam if you know them.
- Offer naivedya (sweets, puffed rice, batasha) and perform aarti with the whole family.
- Light diyas throughout the home and keep one lamp burning through the night if it is safe to do so.
Aim to begin inside the 5:20 PM to 7:16 PM muhurat (Kuwait City). If that is not possible, use the whole Pradosh Kaal, 4:57 PM to 7:35 PM.
Practical tips for Diwali in Kuwait
- Weekdays: Kuwait's weekend is Friday and Saturday. Dhanteras (Friday 6 November) falls on the weekend, which is handy for shopping, but Lakshmi Puja on Sunday 8 November is a normal working day. Check the official 2026 holiday list and plan to leave work on time or take leave if you can.
- Early sunset: the sun sets around 4:57 PM, so Pradosh begins early. Prepare the puja space and prasad the day before so you can start soon after you get home.
- Weather: early November evenings in Kuwait are usually warm and pleasant, but keep diyas away from air-conditioning vents and curtains, and use a tray under every lamp.
- Fireworks: rules are set by the local authorities and by your building management. Check before buying or lighting anything, and choose diyas and lights where in doubt.
- Puja items: Indian grocery stores across Kuwait stock diyas, rangoli colours, puja items and sweets in the weeks before Diwali. Buy early, as popular items sell out.
- Community pujas: if a group or priest is arranging a puja or you want a priest at home, book early, as demand is highest on the main evening.
