About the role

A Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is a software engineer who works directly with partners and clients, learns their problem first-hand, and then builds, integrates and deploys the solution with them. HinduTone wants to work closely with temples, community organisations, event organisers and other partners who want their festival listings, temple information, job posts or community updates presented well on hindutone.com. We are hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to be the technical person who sits closest to those partners.

The role is full-time and hybrid, based in Hyderabad. On one day you might be on a call understanding how a partner manages its event schedule; on another you might be writing the integration that brings that schedule onto the site, or fixing a problem in production. What you learn from partners will feed directly into how our product and content tools evolve.

This position suits a software engineer who has had customer-facing or production delivery exposure, who can explain technical choices in plain language, and who enjoys owning a problem until the partner is genuinely satisfied.

What you will do

  • Meet partners and clients to understand their goals, data and constraints before proposing a solution.
  • Translate partner needs into clear technical plans that both they and our team can agree on.
  • Build integrations that bring partner data, such as event schedules, temple details or job posts, onto the hindutone.com website.
  • Customise templates, data formats and workflows to fit each partner without breaking shared code.
  • Deploy changes to production carefully, with checks, rollback plans and clear communication.
  • Troubleshoot live issues reported by partners, find the root cause and confirm the fix with them.
  • Write simple setup notes and handover documents that partners can follow on their own.
  • Collect repeated requests and pain points, and share them with the product and engineering team as concrete suggestions.
  • Keep partners informed with honest updates on progress, risks and timelines.
  • Help colleagues in content and sales understand what is technically possible for a partner.

Skills we are looking for

Must have

  • Software engineering experience with exposure to customers, clients or production delivery.
  • Solid programming skills in at least one language such as Python or JavaScript.
  • Experience working with APIs, data formats like JSON and CSV, and databases.
  • Comfort deploying to and debugging live systems, including reading logs.
  • Clear spoken and written English, and the ability to explain technical points to non-technical people.
  • A steady approach under pressure when a partner is facing a problem.

Good to have

  • Fluency in Telugu or Hindi, which helps when working with local partners.
  • Experience with web content systems, scheduling data or listings platforms.
  • Familiarity with Linux servers, web servers and basic cloud services.
  • Experience writing technical documentation for external users.
  • Exposure to AI or LLM tools that can be adapted to partner workflows.
  • Prior work in a consulting, solutions or support engineering role.

Who should apply

This role is for software engineers who already have some experience delivering to customers or running production systems. A degree in computer science, IT or a related field is helpful, though equivalent practical skills shown through real delivery work are equally valued. Engineers who have only worked on internal tasks but want to move closer to customers are welcome if they can show relevant delivery experience. If you are starting out, our FDE listing for freshers is written with you in mind. You should be comfortable working from our Hyderabad office on scheduled days and from home on others.

How you will grow

As an FDE you will own partner engagements from the first conversation to a stable deployment and beyond. Because every partner is different, you will build a broad toolkit across integration, deployment, debugging and communication. Your field observations will directly shape product decisions, so you will have real influence over what the team builds next. Over time you can take on larger or more complex partners and help define how HinduTone runs partner delivery as a practice.

The role also builds judgement that pure development work rarely does. You will learn when to say yes to a partner request, when to suggest a simpler path, and when to push back because a change would hurt other users of the site. Balancing a partner's urgency with the stability of shared systems is a skill that grows with every engagement, and it is one of the most valued strengths in any customer-facing engineering career.

Preparing your application

  • Summarise two or three projects where you worked directly with a client or end user, and what you delivered.
  • Describe a production issue you handled: how you found the cause, fixed it and kept the client informed.
  • Include a GitHub link or write-up for an integration you built between two systems.
  • Mention the languages you speak, especially Telugu or Hindi, and any experience with local partners.
  • Add a short note on a time you turned customer feedback into a product change.
  • Keep your resume focused on outcomes, such as what the client could do after your work that they could not before.

Before the interview

Our overview of FDE engineer careers explains how the role differs from a standard developer job and what interviewers usually test. Brush up on integration patterns, safe deployment and rollback, and practise explaining a technical decision to someone with no engineering background.
