About the role
HinduTone is opening a full-time entry-level position for a Python Developer (Freshers) in Hyderabad. If you have recently finished your degree, enjoy writing Python and want your first job to involve real code that readers depend on, this role is built for you.
Our website carries daily panchang pages, festival calendars for many countries, temple listings, careers content and community stories in English, Hindi and Telugu. Much of that depends on careful data work: importing calendar and panchang data, checking it, transforming it and serving it through APIs. As a fresher on the team, you will write scripts, build small FastAPI services, work with SQL databases and learn how professional code is tested, reviewed and released.
We are hiring because the amount of structured data behind HinduTone keeps growing, and we want someone who can grow with it. The work is hybrid, with time at our Hyderabad office and some days from home. You will be supported by experienced engineers, and your code will go through review before it ships, so you can learn quickly without worrying about breaking things alone.
What you will do
- Write Python scripts that import, clean and validate calendar and panchang data before it reaches the website.
- Build and extend simple REST APIs with FastAPI, including request validation and clear error responses.
- Write SQL queries to read, insert and update data, and learn how to design small tables sensibly.
- Create data processing jobs that run on a schedule and report clearly when something goes wrong.
- Write unit tests with pytest for the code you add, and fix tests that break because of your changes.
- Follow a Git workflow with branches, small commits and pull requests.
- Take part in code review, both receiving feedback on your work and reading others' code to learn.
- Investigate data mismatches, such as a festival date that looks wrong for one country, and trace them to the source.
- Update technical notes so the next person can run your scripts without asking you.
- Pair with senior developers on larger tasks and gradually take on pieces of them independently.
- Help check Hindi and Telugu text output from your scripts so that names and dates display correctly in every language.
Skills we are looking for
Must have
- Good command of core Python: functions, data structures, modules, exceptions and file handling.
- Basic SQL, including SELECT queries, joins, filtering and simple inserts or updates.
- Familiarity with Git basics such as cloning, committing, branching and resolving simple conflicts.
- An understanding of how HTTP APIs work, including methods, status codes and JSON.
- Patience with detail, because a single wrong date in a calendar matters to readers.
- Willingness to ask questions and act on feedback.
Good to have
- A small project built with FastAPI or Flask.
- Experience writing tests with pytest or unittest.
- Exposure to pandas or CSV and JSON processing.
- Basic Linux command-line skills.
- Familiarity with how Hindu calendars work, such as tithi, nakshatra or regional new years, which helps when checking data.
Who should apply
This role is for freshers with 0 to 1 year of experience. You should have a degree in computer science, IT or a related field, or equivalent practical skills shown through projects. Graduates from other branches such as electronics, mechanical or mathematics are welcome if they have taught themselves Python and can show working code.
You do not need prior industry experience. Internships, college projects, hackathon entries and personal scripts all count. What we look for is clear thinking, honest effort and the habit of checking your own work. You should be ready to join a full-time hybrid team in Hyderabad.
What you will learn
In your first months you will learn how a working Python codebase is organised, how data moves from a source file into a database and out through an API, and how tests and code review keep that process safe. You will see how a small change is planned, written, reviewed, merged and released.
As you settle in, you will start owning small data jobs from start to finish, including their documentation and monitoring. You will also learn to read error logs, reproduce bugs and write fixes with tests attached. Working on multilingual content will give you practical experience with Unicode text, date handling across time zones and regional variations in data, all of which are useful skills wherever your career takes you. By the end of your first year, the aim is for you to be confident picking up a ticket, asking the right questions and delivering a reviewed, tested change on your own.
Preparing your application
- Link to your GitHub profile and point to the two projects you are most proud of.
- Include at least one project that reads data from a file or API, processes it and stores or displays the result.
- If you have built any API, describe the endpoints and how you tested them.
- Mention your final-year project in two or three lines, focusing on what you personally wrote.
- List the SQL concepts you are comfortable with, and be ready to write a query in the interview.
- Keep the resume to one page with your contact details, education, skills and projects.
Before the interview
We have put together a detailed look at Python jobs for freshers and how to prepare for them, which covers the topics entry-level interviews usually test. Spend some time revising Python lists, dictionaries and string handling, basic SQL joins and how a simple FastAPI endpoint is structured.
