About the role
Want to spend your internship writing Python that actually gets used? HinduTone is offering a paid internship (stipend) for a Python Developer Intern in Hyderabad. You will join our technology team and work on real tasks for the HinduTone website, which covers festivals, temples, daily panchang, careers and community content in English, Hindi and Telugu.
The internship is about learning by doing, with plenty of support. You will write automation scripts that save the editorial team time, clean up data files, build small FastAPI endpoints, write tests with pytest and document what you build. Most of your work will be paired with or reviewed by senior engineers, so you will always have someone to ask when you get stuck.
We are taking on an intern because there is a steady stream of small, well-defined Python tasks that are perfect for someone building their skills. The internship is hybrid, with time at our Hyderabad office and some days from home. It suits students and recent graduates who know the basics of Python and want structured, mentored experience on a live project.
What you will do
- Write automation scripts for repetitive jobs, such as renaming files, checking links in content or generating reports.
- Clean and reformat data files, for example festival lists or temple details, so they are consistent and ready to import.
- Build small FastAPI endpoints under supervision, with input validation and simple responses.
- Write pytest tests for your scripts and endpoints, starting from examples your mentor shares.
- Document how each script works, what inputs it expects and how to run it.
- Pair with senior engineers on debugging sessions and learn how they approach a problem.
- Raise pull requests, respond to review comments and update your code based on feedback.
- Help spot errors in Hindi and Telugu text, such as broken characters or mixed-up transliterations.
- Attend short weekly check-ins to share progress, blockers and what you have learnt.
- Present one of your completed tasks to the team near the end of the internship.
Skills we are looking for
Must have
- Basic Python: variables, loops, conditions, functions, lists and dictionaries.
- Ability to read and write CSV or JSON files in Python.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn new tools quickly.
- Comfort asking for help and explaining what you have already tried.
- Reliable communication about your availability and progress.
Good to have
- A small project using FastAPI, Flask or any web framework.
- Basic Git commands and a GitHub account with some code on it.
- Any experience with pytest or another testing tool.
- Familiarity with the Linux terminal.
- Reading knowledge of Hindi or Telugu, which helps with checking multilingual data.
Who should apply
This internship is open to students and recent graduates. Final-year students in computer science, IT or a related field are a natural fit, as are recent graduates who have equivalent practical skills from self-study or online courses. Students from other branches are welcome if they have written some Python on their own.
You should be able to attend the Hyderabad office on agreed days and work from home on the others, and commit to the internship schedule we agree before you start. Please check with your college that the internship timing fits your academic calendar. We do not expect polished code on day one; we expect effort, honesty about what you know and a steady improvement as the weeks go by.
What you will learn
By the end of the internship you will have written Python code that runs on a real website, which is a strong point on any resume. You will learn how to structure a script so others can use it, how to write tests that catch mistakes early, and how a FastAPI endpoint receives and returns data.
You will also pick up habits that classrooms rarely teach: breaking a vague task into small steps, writing a clear pull request description, reading someone else's code and handling review comments without taking them personally. Working with English, Hindi and Telugu content will show you how text encoding and data cleaning work in practice. You will also see how a small team plans work across a week, decides what to fix first and keeps a shared codebase tidy.
Mentoring is a core part of the internship. Your mentor will review your code, suggest what to learn next and give you honest feedback on your strengths. Strong interns may be considered for an open position on the team if one is available when the internship ends, though this is not promised.
Preparing your application
- Share your GitHub link, even if it only has college assignments or small practice scripts.
- Describe one Python script you wrote that solved a real problem for you, your class or your family.
- Mention any course, certificate or self-study you have done in Python, with what you built along the way.
- If you have tried FastAPI, Flask or any API work, explain what your endpoint did.
- Tell us your current year of study or graduation date, and when you can start.
- Add a short note on what you hope to learn during the internship, so we can match you with suitable tasks.
