Quick answer: Diwali 2026 in Prayagraj is on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The Lakshmi Puja muhurat in Prayagraj is 5:42 PM – 7:39 PM IST, calculated by HinduTone with the Drik Panchang method, and sunset is at about 5:17 PM. The Kartik Amavasya snan and daan at the Triveni Sangam falls on the morning of Monday, 9 November, from sunrise at about 6:14 AM, because the Amavasya is still running at sunrise that day. Govardhan Puja is Tuesday, 10 November and Bhai Dooj Wednesday, 11 November. Crackers are on sale at 79 markets with 701 shops across the district from 6 to 9 November, 9 AM to 9 PM. As of 8 November HinduTone has not found a 2026 Prayagraj order on cracker hours, so the national rule applies: 8 PM to 10 PM on Diwali, green crackers only.
Prayagraj keeps Diwali beside the rivers. Families perform Lakshmi-Ganesh puja at dusk and light their homes, the bazaars of Chowk and Katra are packed with shoppers buying lamps, idols, khil-batashe and sweets, and on Kartik Amavasya pilgrims bathe at the confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna and the unseen Saraswati and float lamps on the water. This guide covers the dates and times, the Sangam snan and deepdaan, markets, temples, the cracker markets and practical tips.
Editor's note (8 November 2026): puja and sunrise times are HinduTone's own calculation for Prayagraj. The cracker-market figures are from UNI Varta (6 November 2026). We did not find a published 2026 Diwali traffic plan for Prayagraj city; check the Prayagraj traffic police's social media pages before you drive into the markets.

Kartik Amavasya at the Sangam: snan and deepdaan
Bathing at the Triveni Sangam is held to be meritorious on every Amavasya, and Kartik Amavasya, the new moon of Diwali, is one of the most important.
- When: Monday, 9 November, from sunrise (about 6:14 AM) until the Amavasya ends at 12:31 PM. Many families also come to the ghats on Diwali evening to float lamps.
- What people do: a holy dip at the confluence, prayers to the rivers, tarpan for ancestors in some families, and daan (charity) of food, clothes, lamps or money.
- Deepdaan: small clay lamps, often set in leaf cups with flowers, are lit and floated on the water with a prayer for the family's well-being.
- Getting there: boats take bathers from the ghats near the Fort and Arail out to the bathing point at the confluence. Agree the fare before you board and wear the life jacket offered.
For the meaning of the day, see Prayagraj Sangam on Kartik Amavasya 2026 and the Triveni Sangam explained.
Safety at the river: bathe only at the marked bathing area, stay within your depth, keep children's hands in yours, and follow the instructions of the water police and boatmen. November mornings are cold; carry a towel and dry clothes.

Expect heavy traffic around Chowk and Katra in the evenings; use an auto or park outside and walk.

- Kartik Purnima and Dev Deepawali: on Tuesday, 24 November the ghats are lit with lamps again for the Kartik Purnima snan. See Dev Deepawali 2026.
Practical tips
- Weather: early November in Prayagraj is pleasant by day, around 16–30 °C, with cold, misty early mornings at the river.
- Air quality: the air often worsens in November and after Diwali night; people with asthma should carry their medicines and avoid the heaviest bursting.
- Crowds: Chowk on Diwali evening and the Sangam on Monday morning are very crowded; keep valuables close and agree a meeting point.
- Safety at home: keep diyas away from curtains, use LED lights on balconies, and keep water and sand ready if you burst crackers.
