About the role
The hindutone.com website serves readers looking up festival dates, temple details, daily panchang, careers articles and community news in English, Hindi and Telugu. Readers expect those pages to load quickly, especially in the days before a major festival, and they trust us to keep data safe. We are hiring an AWS Cloud Engineer to look after the cloud infrastructure that makes this possible.
This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Hyderabad. You will manage compute, storage, networking, databases and access on AWS, keep costs under control, make sure backups exist and actually restore, and respond calmly when something breaks. You will also use Terraform so that infrastructure changes are reviewed and repeatable instead of done by hand in the console.
The role suits an engineer with hands-on AWS administration or engineering experience who likes tidy, secure infrastructure, reads the bill as closely as the logs, and documents what they change.
What you will do
- Run and maintain EC2 instances, including patching, sizing and replacing unhealthy servers.
- Manage S3 buckets for media and backups, with sensible lifecycle rules, versioning and access policies.
- Design and review IAM roles and policies on the principle of least privilege, and remove unused access.
- Maintain VPC networking, subnets, security groups and routing, and keep public exposure to a minimum.
- Operate RDS databases, covering parameter tuning, snapshots, upgrades and restore tests.
- Build and support small Lambda functions for scheduled jobs and automation.
- Set up CloudWatch metrics, logs, dashboards and alarms so that problems are noticed before readers notice them.
- Enable and review CloudTrail so that every important change in the account can be traced.
- Track monthly spend, find waste, and recommend savings such as right-sizing or storage class changes.
- Write and maintain Terraform for infrastructure, with changes reviewed before they are applied.
- Harden the environment through encryption, secrets handling, patching and regular security reviews.
- Lead incident response for infrastructure issues, then write a short, blame-free review of what happened and what will change.
Skills we are looking for
Must have
- Hands-on AWS administration or engineering experience in a live environment.
- Working knowledge of EC2, S3, IAM, VPC and RDS.
- Comfort with Linux administration and shell scripting.
- Experience with CloudWatch monitoring and alarms.
- A clear understanding of backups, snapshots and how to test a restore.
- Basic Terraform or another infrastructure-as-code tool.
- Good habits around access control and secrets.
Good to have
- Experience with Lambda, EventBridge or other serverless services.
- Familiarity with CloudTrail analysis and AWS security services.
- Experience reducing AWS costs and explaining the savings to non-technical colleagues.
- Knowledge of web servers, caching and content delivery for content-heavy sites.
- Scripting in Python for automation tasks.
- An AWS certification, backed by practical work.
Who should apply
This role is for engineers with real hands-on AWS administration or engineering experience. A degree in computer science, IT, electronics or a related field is useful, but equivalent practical skills proven through live infrastructure work are equally welcome. Certifications help, but we will look more closely at what you have actually run and fixed. If you are earlier in your cloud journey, our AWS fresher and internship pages are a better starting point. You should be able to work from our Hyderabad office on planned days and from home on the others.
How you will grow
You will have direct ownership of the infrastructure behind a busy, multilingual publication, including its reliability, security and cost. Planning for busy festival periods gives you practical capacity work, and writing the Terraform lets you shape how the whole environment is built and changed. You will set standards for monitoring, backups and incident handling that the rest of the team follows. As the site and its sections grow, so will the scope of the systems you are responsible for.
You will also be the person colleagues turn to when they need to understand why something is slow, why the bill changed or whether a new feature is safe to launch. Answering those questions clearly, with evidence from metrics and logs, builds the kind of trust that lets an infrastructure engineer influence decisions early rather than cleaning up after them. Good runbooks and clear write-ups you leave behind will make the whole team stronger during the next incident.
Preparing your application
- List the AWS services you have managed in production and what you were responsible for in each.
- Describe one incident you handled: what failed, how you detected it, how you fixed it and what you changed afterwards.
- Share a Terraform module or repository you wrote, or a short write-up explaining its design.
- Give an example of a cost saving you found, with the approach you used to confirm it was safe.
- Mention any backup and restore test you ran and what you learned from it.
- Include any security hardening work, such as tightening IAM policies or closing public access.
Before the interview
Our AWS jobs for freshers explainer covers the core services and concepts that most AWS interviews start from, so it is a quick way to check for gaps even at an experienced level. Revise IAM policy evaluation, VPC design and RDS backup options, and be prepared to talk through how you would respond to a sudden spike in errors on a live website.
