About the role
HinduTone is offering a paid internship (stipend) for an AWS Cloud Intern who wants to see how a real publication runs on Amazon Web Services. The internship is based in Hyderabad and follows a hybrid pattern, with some days at our office and some from home.
Our readers come to the HinduTone website for English, Hindi and Telugu content on festivals, temples and panchang, as well as our careers and community sections. Behind those pages sits cloud infrastructure that has to be documented, kept within budget and kept organised. Much of that work is ideal for a learner, and we would like an intern to help with it while learning from people who do it every day.
This internship is built around learning. You will work in sandbox accounts first, take on small tasks with clear instructions and have your work checked by a mentor. It suits a student or recent graduate who is curious about cloud computing, enjoys writing things down and is not afraid to say "I do not understand this yet".
What you will do
- Complete structured hands-on labs in a sandbox AWS account, covering EC2, S3, IAM and CloudWatch, and record what you did in a short lab note.
- Help maintain internal documentation, such as setup notes, diagrams of how services connect and step-by-step instructions for routine tasks.
- Prepare simple monthly cost reports using AWS Cost Explorer, highlighting services whose spend has changed.
- Run tagging audits that list resources missing owner, environment or project tags, and draft the fixes for review.
- Write small automation with AWS Lambda and S3, for example a function that tidies old files in a bucket or sends a summary notification.
- Shadow engineers during on-call reviews and incident discussions, taking notes on what happened and how it was resolved.
- Test and improve existing runbooks by following them in the sandbox and pointing out any unclear steps.
- Present a short summary of your work to the team at agreed points during the internship.
- Compare a few S3 storage classes and lifecycle options for older media files, and write up the trade-offs in plain language.
- Keep a weekly learning log listing what you tried, what worked and what you want to explore next.
Skills we are looking for
Must have
- A basic understanding of what cloud computing is and why organisations use it.
- Some exposure to Linux or the command line, even if only from coursework or personal practice.
- Beginner-level programming in Python or another language.
- Good written communication, since documentation is a large part of the work.
- Curiosity and a willingness to accept feedback and try again.
Good to have
- Time spent on the AWS Free Tier or AWS Skill Builder labs.
- Progress towards the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam.
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub.
- Some comfort with spreadsheets for cost and tag reports.
- Interest in reading architecture diagrams or drawing your own.
Who should apply
This internship is open to final-year students and recent graduates. Students pursuing a degree in computer science, IT, electronics or a related field are a natural fit, but we will also consider learners from other streams who can show genuine practical effort in cloud labs.
No prior work experience is needed. You should be able to attend the Hyderabad office on the days agreed with your mentor and manage your college commitments alongside the internship if you are still studying.
We are not expecting interns to know everything already. What we look for is evidence that you have tried things for yourself: a lab you finished at home, a small project you deployed, or notes you made while studying. Mistakes in a sandbox are welcome, because that is exactly where they belong, and talking openly about what went wrong tells us a great deal about how you learn.
What you will learn
You will learn how cloud resources are organised and governed in practice, not only in theory. Tagging, cost tracking and documentation may sound routine, yet they are the habits that separate a well-run cloud account from a messy one, and you will see that difference first-hand.
You will also learn to write your first small pieces of serverless automation, read logs and metrics, and follow how an incident is reviewed calmly and without blame. A mentor will review your work regularly and help you decide what to study next. Strong interns may be considered for an open position at HinduTone if one is available when the internship ends, though this is not assured.
Preparing your application
- Describe any AWS labs or tutorials you have finished and what you built in them, even if they were small.
- Share a GitHub link with a Python script, a Lambda function or study notes, if you have one.
- Attach or link a sample of your writing, such as a project report or a how-to note, since documentation matters in this role.
- Mention your current year of study or graduation year and your stream.
- Tell us in two or three lines why cloud work interests you.
- List any certification you are preparing for and roughly when you plan to attempt it.
Before the interview
To get a feel for what interviewers look for in cloud interns, read our piece on AWS internships and how to prepare for them. Spend some time on the shared responsibility model, the difference between IAM users and roles, S3 storage classes and how a Lambda function is triggered.
