The lit bazaars of the walled city

Jaipur's Diwali lights are put up by the traders' associations of each market, and the decorations change every year. Photographs published by IANS show the markets at Panch Batti on MI Road lit by 1 November 2026, and Johari Bazaar fully illuminated on the eve of Diwali.

The best way to see them is on foot after 7 PM:

  • Johari Bazaar: jewellery, silver and the classic pink-facade view towards Badi Chaupar.
  • Bapu Bazaar and Nehru Bazaar: textiles, mojaris and handicrafts.
  • Tripolia and Chandpole Bazaars: brassware, lac bangles and household goods.
  • MI Road: the modern shopping street outside the walls, with its own decorations.
  • Kishanpole Bazaar: traditional textiles and dyes.

ETV Bharat Rajasthan reported on 3 November 2026 that the city is running decoration contests for homes and shops in seven categories this Diwali, along with a cleanliness drive.

Drone show and fireworks: "Diwali Khushiyon Wali"

The Jaipur Municipal Corporation and the Jaipur Development Authority are holding a "Diwali Khushiyon Wali" programme, according to Pratahkal (7 November 2026):

Traffic plan for the walled city

Jaipur Traffic Police's Diwali plan (Amar Ujala, 3 November 2026):

  • When: from 6 PM on 6, 7, 8 and 9 November, in the walled city (Parkota) and other central markets.
  • No-vehicle zones: Ramniwas Bagh crossing to Sanganeri Gate; Bapu, Nehru, Indira and Sanjay Bazaars; Bandarwal Gate to Badi Chaupar; Choti Chaupar via Gangauri Bazaar; and several roads around Badi Chaupar, Choti Chaupar and Tripolia.
  • Buses: tourist and public buses are barred from the walled city from 6 PM to midnight.
  • Parking: Ramniwas Bagh underground parking, Chaugan Stadium, Chandpole Anaj Mandi and Chandpole Metro station, and Ramlila Maidan for walled-city residents.

Jaipur Metro runs late during Diwali, which is the easiest way to reach Chandpole and Badi Chaupar.

Temples to visit in Jaipur

  • Govind Dev Ji Temple, City Palace complex: Jaipur's most loved Krishna temple, with special jhankis and Annakut after Diwali.
  • Birla Mandir (Lakshmi Narayan Temple): the white-marble temple below Moti Dungri, a natural choice for Lakshmi darshan on Diwali.
  • Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple: the city's best-known Ganesh temple, busy before Lakshmi-Ganesh puja.
  • Galta Ji: the temple and sacred tanks in the hills east of the city.
  • ISKCON Jaipur: Hare Krishna temples usually mark Govardhan Puja with an Annakut offering.

Crackers in Jaipur: what applies

On 4 November 2026 Rajasthan's Department of Environment and Climate Change issued Diwali cracker guidelines for the state's six NCR districts: Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Deeg, Khairthal-Tijara and Kotputli-Behror. There, only CSIR-NEERI-certified green crackers with QR codes are allowed, only on 7 and 8 November, from 6 AM to 7 AM and 8 PM to 10 PM (ETV Bharat Rajasthan).

Jaipur is not one of those districts. As of 8 November 2026 HinduTone has not found a separate 2026 timing order for Jaipur, so the national rules apply:

  • Timing: 8 PM to 10 PM on Diwali, under the Supreme Court's 2018 judgment, which was also Rajasthan's rule in 2024.
  • Type: green crackers only, from licensed shops; no barium or joined "series" crackers.
  • Where: not within 100 metres of hospitals, schools, courts and places of worship, and not near fuel pumps or in crowded markets.
  • Noise: no sound-emitting crackers from 10 PM to 6 AM.

Jaipur district's temporary cracker shop licences run from 12 October to 11 November 2026. All 12 of the city's fire stations are on 24-hour alert from 6 to 11 November (Patrika); for fire emergencies call 101, and for police 112. More details are on our Rajasthan firecracker rules 2026 page.

Practical tips

  • Weather: early November in Jaipur is dry and pleasant, around 14–30 °C; evenings turn cool, so carry a light shawl for the bazaar walk.
  • Air quality: smoke builds up on Diwali night; keep children, older relatives and anyone with asthma indoors during heavy bursting.
  • Crowds: the walled city is packed from 7 PM to midnight; keep valuables close and agree a meeting point with your family.
  • Shopping: carry small change, and bargain politely in the old bazaars.
