Hanuman Jayanti 2027 dates abroad

Hanuman Jayanti is kept on the day when Purnima is the tithi at local sunrise, and when it is not at sunrise on either day Drik gives the day it begins. Canada's BC, Alberta and Manitoba use fixed UTC-7, UTC-6 and UTC-5 from November 2026; these match summer clocks in April, so the times below are unaffected. The USA and Canada are on daylight time from 14 March 2027, the UK on BST from 28 March. Australia and New Zealand moved back to standard time on Sunday 4 April.

Why Hanuman Jayanti has several dates

Chaitra Purnima (20 April 2027): the most widely followed date, in North India, Maharashtra, Gujarat and much of the diaspora. Devotees mark it as the day of Hanuman's birth.
Vaishakha Krishna Dashami (Telugu): Andhra Pradesh and Telangana mark Hanuman Jayanti in May or June. Our own calculation gives Monday 31 May 2027 in Hyderabad, as Dashami begins at 9:36 AM on 30 May and ends at 10:03 AM on 31 May, so it is the tithi at sunrise on the 31st. The different dates come from different traditions about Hanuman's birth and from the regional calendars, and none is wrong. Choose the one your family and temple follow.

Puja vidhi at home

Wake early and bathe. Many devotees keep the day simple, with a light sattvic meal or fruit.
Clean the shrine and place an image or idol of Hanuman, with Rama, Sita and Lakshmana if you have them. Light a lamp with sesame or mustard oil.
Offer red flowers, tulsi leaves, sindoor mixed with oil (chola), and a garland. Offer boondi, laddu, jaggery and bananas as naivedyam.
Recite the Hanuman Chalisa, the Sundara Kanda or the Hanuman Ashtak, and sing bhajans.
Do aarti, share the prasad and spend a little time helping someone, in the spirit of seva.

A short mantra many devotees repeat is:

ॐ हं हनुमते नमः॥

oṃ haṃ hanumate namaḥ||

Meaning: Om, salutations to Hanuman. The Hanuman Chalisa by Tulsidas opens with this doha:

श्रीगुरु चरन सरोज रज निज मनु मुकुरु सुधारि ।
बरनऊँ रघुबर बिमल जसु जो दायकु फल चारि ॥

śrīguru carana saroja raja nija manu mukuru sudhāri |
baranaūm̐ raghubara bimala jasu jo dāyaku phala cāri ||

Meaning: Cleaning the mirror of my mind with the dust of my guru's lotus feet, I describe the pure glory of the best of the Raghus, which grants the four fruits of life. Verse 3 praises Hanuman himself:

जय हनुमान ज्ञान गुन सागर ।
जय कपीस तिहुँ लोक उजागर ॥

jaya hanumāna jñāna guna sāgara |
jaya kapīsa tihum̐ loka ujāgara ||

Fasting on Hanuman Jayanti: a health note

A fast is optional. Many devotees take fruit and milk or a single sattvic meal. Pregnant and breastfeeding women, children, older people and anyone with diabetes, low blood pressure or other conditions, or who takes regular medicines, should talk to a doctor first, drink enough water and break the fast gently. Devotion does not depend on fasting.
