Kubera Mantra for Business: Shop and Office Worship Customs, Chopda Puja and New Account Books
How Hindu traders traditionally worship Kubera at work: the cash box (tijori) puja, Lakshmi-Kubera worship on Dhanteras and Diwali, Chopda Puja for new account books, and the mantras used, with dates for 2026.
Last updated: 5 November 2026. Customs and dates checked against the sources listed at the end on 5 November 2026.
Quick answer: Many Hindu traders worship Kubera, the guardian of wealth, at their place of work alongside Lakshmi and Ganesha. The main customs are worshipping the cash box (tijori) as Kubera's seat, Lakshmi-Kubera puja on Dhanteras and Diwali, and Chopda Puja, the blessing of new account books (today often the laptop) at Diwali in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. The mantras usually used are Om Shri Kuberaya Namah, the "Yakshaya Kuberaya" mantra and the Vedic verse rajadhirajaya. These are acts of worship and gratitude. No mantra guarantees profit or business success.
ॐ श्रीकुबेराय नमः । अनेन पूजनेन श्रीधनाध्यक्षः श्रीकुबेरः प्रीयताम् ।
Transliteration: oṃ śrīkuberāya namaḥ । anena pūjanena śrīdhanādhyakṣaḥ śrīkuberaḥ prīyatām ।
Meaning: "Om, salutations to Shri Kubera. By this worship may Shri Kubera, the lord of wealth, be pleased."
Label: devotional puja formula, from Drik Panchang's Kuber Puja Vidhi (the closing offering).
Why traders worship Kubera
Kubera is the lord of wealth and keeper of treasure (Who is Lord Kubera). Lakshmi is the goddess of prosperity itself, and Ganesha removes obstacles and is worshipped first. So in a shop or office the three are worshipped together. Drik Panchang notes that Kubera is traditionally worshipped during Lakshmi Puja on the Diwali Amavasya, and also on Dhanteras.
For a business family the worship is also a ritual of accounts: closing the old year, opening the new one and remembering that wealth is held in trust.
Custom 1: the cash box as Kubera's seat
Drik Panchang's Kuber Puja Vidhi says that if you do not have a Kubera image, you can worship the cash chest (tijori) or jewellery box as Kubera himself. Before the puja you draw a swastika on it with sindoor and tie a sacred thread (moli). In a shop this is the cash drawer or safe. In an office it may be the locker that holds the cheque books.
The short worship then follows: the dhyana verse, the invocation, nine offerings with Om Shri Kuberaya Namah, and the closing mantra above.
Custom 2: Chopda Puja, new account books
Drik Panchang describes Chopda Puja (also called Chopada Pujan or Muhurat Pujan):
- Lakshmi Puja at Diwali is better known as Chopda Puja in Gujarat, where traditional account books are called chopda.
- New account books are sanctified at Diwali to seek the blessing of Lakshmi, Ganesha and Sharada for the coming year.
- Today many businesses use a laptop as the chopda, drawing Swastika, Om and Shubh-Labh on it.
- In Gujarat, an auspicious Choghadiya (Amrit, Shubh, Labh or Char) is commonly chosen.
- Apart from Gujarat, Chopda Puja is also performed by Hindu business communities in Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
In 2026, Drik Panchang gives Chopda Puja on Sunday 8 November (New Delhi listing). Our Chopda Puja 2026 guide has city-wise Choghadiya timings and the Sharda Puja vidhi. For regional background see Diwali in Gujarat: Chopda Pujan and New Year.
Custom 3: Lakshmi-Kubera on Dhanteras and Diwali
- Dhanteras, Friday 6 November 2026: Drik Panchang calls it the most important festival for Kubera, when Kubera is worshipped with Lakshmi. Timings are on Kuber Puja 2026 on Dhanteras, and the mantras for buying gold are on Dhanteras gold-buying mantras.
- Diwali Lakshmi Puja, Sunday 8 November 2026: Kubera is worshipped with Lakshmi and Ganesha. Families who keep new account books place them, and the cash box, before the deities.

A word on promises
Many websites sell "business success" or "money attraction" through Kubera mantras. That is not what the tradition teaches. Kubera is worshipped as the guardian of wealth earned rightly, and the account-book puja is a prayer for an honest, well-run year. Treat any outcome claim as advertising. Business results depend on decisions, work and circumstances.
