On three days, the Hindu Center's calendar matches the India (New Delhi) dates rather than Drik's New York dates. Those are Annakut (Nov 10, against Nov 9 in New York), Bhai Dooj (Nov 11, against Nov 10) and the Sita–Ram wedding, Vivah Panchami (Dec 14, against Dec 13). Neither is wrong; they follow different reference calendars. Go by the temple's day if you are attending there.

Tips for visiting NYC temples

  • Diwali weekend. Ganesh Temple runs Deepavali from Friday, November 6, to Sunday, November 8, and ISKCON NYC's festival is on Sunday evening from 4:30 pm. Expect the busiest hours on Sunday evening at both.
  • Two Flushing temples, two calendars. Ganesh Temple and the Hindu Center are both in Flushing but can mark a festival on different days. Check the temple you plan to visit.
  • Hindu Center hours. On weekdays it closes between noon and 5 pm. Plan weekday visits for the morning or evening.
  • Kartika Deepam. Ganesh Temple's Sarvalaya Deepam on Monday, November 23, runs from 4:30 to 6:15 pm. It is a weeknight, so leave work early if you can.
  • Ekadashi in December. Decide early whether your family keeps the Saturday (Smarta) or Sunday (Vaishnava) date, and plan the parana around work on Monday, December 21.
