A day-by-day November 2026 Hindu calendar for the USA: the tithi at New York sunrise for all 30 days, the US dates of Dhanteras, Naraka Chaturdashi, Diwali, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj (several fall a day earlier than in India), when Karthika Masam begins, every Karthika Somavaram, Devutthana Ekadashi, Tulasi Vivah, Karthika Pournami and Kalabhairav Jayanti.
Quick answer: the main November 2026 Hindu festivals in the USA are Dhanteras on Friday 6 November, Naraka Chaturdashi on Saturday 7 November, Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) on Sunday 8 November, Govardhan Puja on Monday 9 November and Bhai Dooj on Tuesday 10 November. Karthika Masam begins on Monday 9 November, Devutthana Ekadashi is Friday 20 November, Tulasi Vivah Saturday 21 November and Karthika Pournami Tuesday 24 November.
Four Diwali-week days and several Karthika days fall one day earlier in the USA than in India. The table below gives every day of the month with the tithi at New York sunrise, the local sunrise and the observances on the US calendar, each linked to that date's full panchang.
November 2026 in the USA at a glance
November is the busiest month of the Hindu year for American families. It opens with Ahoi Ashtami and Rama Ekadashi, peaks with the five days of Diwali, and then turns into Karthika Masam, the lamp-lit month that Telugu, Kannada and Tamil households keep with Monday fasts, evening deepams and the Karthika Pournami on Tuesday 24 November. North Indian families mark the same stretch as the second half of Kartika, ending with Dev Deepawali and the full moon.
Two calendar quirks shape the month in America. First, daylight saving time ends on Sunday 1 November, so sunrise in New York moves from 7:23 AM to 6:24 AM overnight and keeps drifting to 6:58 AM by 30 November, with sunset as early as 4:31 PM. Second, because the USA lies so far west of India, a tithi that starts during India's afternoon is often already running at the American sunrise of the previous date. That is why these US dates differ from India: Naraka Chaturdashi (Choti Diwali), Karthika Masam begins (amanta), Govardhan Puja, Annakut, Bali Pratipada, Bhai Dooj / Yama Dwitiya, Nagula Chavithi, Skanda Sashti (Soora Samharam), Vaikuntha Chaturdashi, Karthigai Deepam.
November 2026 Hindu calendar for the USA, day by day
Tithi and sunrise are for New York (Eastern Time), computed with HinduTone's panchang calculator, which has been validated against Drik Panchang. Festival dates come from Drik Panchang's US calendar. Remember that a festival is not always kept on the day its tithi is at sunrise: Diwali follows the evening, Masik Shivaratri and Kalabhairav Jayanti follow midnight, and Sankashti follows moonrise. Items marked "India date" have no separate US date in our data: abroad it may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple.

Diwali week in the USA (Friday 6 November to Tuesday 10 November)
Dhanteras opens the week on Friday 6 November with the purchase of a new utensil or a little gold and a lamp for Yama at the doorstep. Naraka Chaturdashi, with its pre-dawn oil bath remembering Krishna's victory over Narakasura, comes on Saturday 7 November, a Saturday in the USA, which makes the early bath easy for families. Lakshmi Puja is the evening of Sunday 8 November. For the full plan see Diwali 2026 dates in the USA and the Lakshmi Puja muhurat by US city.
Govardhan Puja and Annakut, with its mountain of food offered to Krishna, fall on Monday 9 November in the USA, and Bhai Dooj on Tuesday 10 November, both a day before India. Gujarati families celebrate their New Year with Govardhan Puja. See Govardhan Puja 2026 in the USA and Bhai Dooj 2026.
Karthika Masam and the Monday fasts
For families who follow the amanta (new-moon) calendar, Karthika Masam begins on Monday 9 November in the USA, the day after the Diwali new moon ends on the American calendar. India starts it on Tuesday 10 November. The happy result is an extra Karthika Somavaram: the USA has 4 Mondays in November (Monday 9 November, Monday 16 November, Monday 23 November, Monday 30 November), and the last Karthika Monday in India and the USA alike comes in early December. Monday fasting, an evening lamp at the tulasi and a Shiva abhishekam are the core practices. Read Karthika Masam 2026 in the USA, city by city and Karthika Monday rituals for US Hindus.
Nagula Chavithi, when Telugu families offer milk to the serpent deities, is Thursday 12 November in the USA. Skanda Sashti and the Soora Samharam of Lord Murugan fall on Saturday 14 November. Guides: Nagula Chavithi 2026 and Skanda Sashti 2026 in the USA, Canada, UK and Australia.
Chhath Puja
Chhath, the sun worship of Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, has its main evening arghya on Sunday 15 November in India, with the dawn arghya the next morning. Our data has no separate US date, so abroad it may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple or community group. Families in the USA usually offer arghya at a lake, river or even a backyard tub; see Chhath Puja in the USA.
Devutthana Ekadashi and Tulasi Vivah
Vishnu wakes from his four-month yogic sleep on Devutthana (Prabodhini) Ekadashi, Friday 20 November in the USA, and weddings and house-warmings resume afterwards. Tulasi Vivah, the wedding of the tulasi plant to Vishnu, and the Telugu Ksheerabdi Dwadashi follow on Saturday 21 November. Both match India. See Dev Uthani Ekadashi and Tulsi Vivah 2026 in the USA and Ksheerabdi Dwadashi in the USA.
Vaikuntha Chaturdashi, Karthigai Deepam and Karthika Pournami
The full-moon weekend is crowded in the USA. Vaikuntha Chaturdashi, when Vishnu and Shiva are worshipped together, is Sunday 22 November (India: Monday 23 November). Tamil families light Karthigai Deepam on Monday 23 November, a day before India, because of the time difference. Karthika Pournami and Dev Diwali are on Tuesday 24 November. Read Karthika Pournami celebrations in the USA and Karthigai Deepam 2026 in the USA, Canada, Singapore and Malaysia. Sikh neighbours celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti on the same full moon.
Kalabhairav Jayanti and the smaller vrats
Kalabhairav Jayanti is Monday 30 November in the USA, a day before India (Tuesday 1 December), and it falls on a Karthika Monday. See Kalabhairava Jayanti 2026. Rama Ekadashi (Thursday 5 November in India), Ahoi Ashtami (Sunday 1 November), Ravi Pradosh (Sunday 22 November) and Ganadhipa Sankashti (Friday 27 November) have no separate US date in our data: abroad they may fall a day earlier or later, so check your local temple. Our November 2026 vrat and fasting days guide explains each one.
Notes for American families
- Time zones: for the Karthika festivals Drik Panchang gives the same date in every US city we checked, but evening times (Lakshmi Puja, Pradosh, deepam) are local. A Lakshmi Puja time from India never applies in the USA.
- Weekdays: Diwali is a Sunday and Naraka Chaturdashi a Saturday, so the busiest temple days are the weekend of 7 and 8 November. Bhai Dooj and Govardhan Puja fall on working days.
- Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving is Thursday 26 November. Many families combine the long weekend with a Karthika Monday visit to a Shiva or Venkateswara temple on 30 November.
- Fasting and health: if you are pregnant, elderly, diabetic or on medication, keep a light fast with fruit and milk, or speak to your doctor first.
- Lamps indoors: keep diyas on a metal tray, away from curtains and smoke alarms, and never leave a flame unattended.
Frequently asked questions
Is Diwali 2026 on 8 November in the USA?
Yes. Drik Panchang's US calendar keeps Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) on Sunday 8 November, the same day as India. What moves is the rest of the week: Naraka Chaturdashi is Saturday 7 November, Govardhan Puja Monday 9 November and Bhai Dooj Tuesday 10 November in the USA, each one day earlier than in India.
When does Karthika Masam 2026 start in the USA?
On Monday 9 November, one day earlier than India (Tuesday 10 November). Because of that, the USA gets 4 Karthika Somavarams in November (Monday 9 November, Monday 16 November, Monday 23 November, Monday 30 November), while India has 3.
Is the date the same in New York and California?
For the Karthika festivals, Drik Panchang gives the same date in every US city we checked, from New York and Atlanta to Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles and Seattle. The daily tithi table uses New York sunrise; on a few days the tithi at sunrise in the West can differ, so check Drik Panchang for your city before a fast.
When is Karthika Pournami 2026 in the USA?
On Tuesday 24 November, the same as India. In New York the Purnima tithi runs from Mon 23 Nov, 1:12 PM to Tue 24 Nov, 9:53 AM local time, so many families light the Karthika deepam on Monday evening as well. Follow your temple.
Why do some US festivals fall a day earlier than in India?
A festival day is fixed by the tithi at a local moment such as sunrise, evening or midnight. after 1 November US clocks are 10.5 hours (Eastern) to 13.5 hours (Pacific) behind India, so a tithi that begins during India's day often already covers the American sunrise or evening of the previous calendar date.
Do I need to change anything when clocks go back on 1 November?
Only your alarm. US daylight saving time ends at 2 AM on Sunday 1 November 2026, so New York sunrise jumps from 7:23 AM on 31 October to 6:24 AM on 1 November. All times in this guide are local clock times after the change.
Editor's note and methodology
Editor's note (9 October 2026): This calendar has been restored at its original address. Daily tithi, nakshatra and sunrise for New York are computed with HinduTone's panchang calculator, validated against Drik Panchang (tithi at sunrise matched on every checked date). Festival dates for the USA are from Drik Panchang's US calendar; India dates are from Drik Panchang for Hyderabad. Where we have no US date, we show the India date and say so. Times from India are never converted. Regional and family traditions vary, so confirm with your temple before a fast.
