November 2026 in Australia at a glance
For Australian Hindus, November is a festival month in early summer. Diwali comes in the warm, long evenings, and Karthika lamps are lit when the sun sets late. In Sydney the sun rises at 5:53 AM on 1 November and at 5:36 AM on 30 November, while sunset moves from 7:24 PM to 7:51 PM. Evening rituals such as Lakshmi Puja, the Karthika deepam and Pradosh puja therefore start much later on the clock than they would in India.
Australia is the one big diaspora country that lies east of India. New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT, Tasmania and South Australia have been on daylight time since early October, which puts Sydney 5.5 hours ahead of India; Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not change their clocks. Being ahead of India means a tithi can reach Australia's sunrise a day after it reaches India's, so where Australian dates differ this month, they tend to be later, not earlier. The Australian dates that differ from India are: Vrishchika Sankranti, Devutthana (Prabodhini) Ekadashi, Tulasi Vivah, Ksheerabdi Dwadashi.
November 2026 Hindu calendar for Australia, day by day
Tithi at sunrise and sunrise are for Sydney (AEDT), computed with HinduTone's panchang calculator and validated against Drik Panchang. Festival dates are from Drik Panchang's Australian calendar. A festival does not always fall on the day its tithi prevails at sunrise: Diwali depends on the evening, Masik Shivaratri on midnight and Sankashti on moonrise. Where an observance is marked "India date", we have no Australian date for it: abroad it may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple.

Diwali week in Australia
Unlike North America and the UK, Australia keeps every main day of Diwali week on the Indian date. Dhanteras is Friday 6 November, when families buy a new vessel or a little gold and set a lamp for Yama by the door. Naraka Chaturdashi falls on Sunday 8 November and Lakshmi Puja on Sunday 8 November: the pre-dawn oil bath in the morning and Lakshmi and Ganesha worship after sunset, which in Sydney comes well after 7 PM. Read Diwali 2026 dates in Australia and the Lakshmi Puja muhurat by Australian city.
Govardhan Puja and Annakut, the offering of a hill of food to Krishna, follow on Tuesday 10 November, with Bhai Dooj on Wednesday 11 November. Both are weekdays, so many families hold the Annakut at the temple on the nearest weekend. See Govardhan Puja and Annakut 2026 and Bhai Dooj 2026.
Karthika Masam and the Somavarams in Australia
Karthika Masam, the lamp month of Telugu and Kannada families, begins on Tuesday 10 November in Australia, exactly as in India. The November Mondays for the Somavaram fast are Monday 16 November, Monday 23 November, Monday 30 November. Families keep a day-long fast or a single meal, offer water and bilva to Shiva, and light a lamp at dusk. Nagula Chavithi, when milk is offered to the serpent deities, is Friday 13 November. Guides: Karthika Masam 2026 Australia dates, Karthika Somavaram 2026 in Australia and Nagula Chavithi 2026 in Australia.
Vrishchika Sankranti, the Sun's move into Scorpio, is Tuesday 17 November on Drik Panchang's Australian calendar, a day after India's Monday 16 November. For Ayyappa devotees the new solar month opens the Sabarimala Mandala season and the 41-day vratam; see the Sabarimala Mandalam and Makaravilakku 2026-27 guide.
Skanda Sashti and Chhath Puja
Skanda Sashti, the Soora Samharam of Lord Murugan, is on Sunday 15 November in India, and Chhath Puja's main evening arghya to the setting sun falls on the same date there. We have no Australian date for either: abroad they may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple. Murugan temples and Bihari community groups announce their own schedules. See Skanda Sashti 2026 abroad and Chhath Puja in Canada, Australia and the UAE.
Devutthana Ekadashi and Tulasi Vivah: one day later
This is the month's most important difference for Australian families. Devutthana (Prabodhini) Ekadashi, when Vishnu wakes from his four-month sleep and the Chaturmas period ends, is Saturday 21 November in Australia but Friday 20 November in India. Tulasi Vivah and the Telugu Ksheerabdi Dwadashi follow on Sunday 22 November (India: Saturday 21 November). If relatives in India are fasting a day earlier, that is expected; follow the Australian date. Read Dev Uthani Ekadashi and Tulsi Vivah 2026 in Australia and Ksheerabdi Dwadashi in Australia.
Karthika Pournami and Karthigai Deepam
Karthika Pournami, Dev Diwali and Tamil Karthigai Deepam all fall on Tuesday 24 November in Australia. In Sydney the Purnima tithi begins at Tue 24 Nov, 5:12 AM and ends at Wed 25 Nov, 1:53 AM, so the whole Tuesday belongs to the full moon and the evening is the natural time for a row of lamps, a Shiva abhishekam or the 365-wick deepam. See Karthika Pournami celebrations in Australia and Karthigai Deepam 2026. Vaikuntha Chaturdashi has no Australian date in our data (India: Monday 23 November), so check your local temple. Sikh families mark Guru Nanak Jayanti at the same full moon.
Smaller vrats this month
Ahoi Ashtami (Sunday 1 November in India), Rama Ekadashi (Thursday 5 November), Masik Shivaratri (Saturday 7 November), Gopashtami (Tuesday 17 November), Akshaya Navami (Wednesday 18 November), Ravi Pradosh (Sunday 22 November) and Ganadhipa Sankashti (Friday 27 November) have no Australian dates in our data. Because Australia is ahead of India, a later date is more likely than an earlier one, but abroad it may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple. Our November 2026 vrat and fasting days guide explains each one.
Notes for Australian families
- Summer evenings: late sunsets push Lakshmi Puja, Pradosh and deepam times well into the evening. Work out the time from your own city's sunset, never from an Indian time.
- Fire danger: November can bring total fire ban days in parts of Australia. Keep diyas indoors on a metal tray, check your state's fire rules before outdoor lamps or sparklers, and never leave a flame unattended.
- Weekdays: Diwali is a Sunday this year. Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj fall on a Tuesday and Wednesday, and Tulasi Vivah on a Sunday, which suits a home puja.
- Fasting and health: hot weather makes a full fast harder. Drink water, and if you are pregnant, elderly, diabetic or on medication, choose a fruit-and-milk fast or ask your doctor.
Frequently asked questions
Is Diwali 2026 on the same day in Australia as in India?
Yes. Drik Panchang's Australian calendar keeps the whole core of Diwali week on India's dates: Dhanteras Friday 6 November, Naraka Chaturdashi Sunday 8 November, Lakshmi Puja Sunday 8 November, Govardhan Puja Tuesday 10 November and Bhai Dooj Wednesday 11 November.
Why is Devutthana Ekadashi a day later in Australia?
Sydney is 5.5 hours ahead of India during daylight time, so its sunrise comes earlier on the world clock than India's, and the Ekadashi rules applied at local sunrise give a different result. Drik Panchang therefore places Devutthana Ekadashi on Saturday 21 November in Australia (India: Friday 20 November) and Tulasi Vivah on Sunday 22 November (India: Saturday 21 November).
How many Karthika Somavarams are there in Australia in November 2026?
3: Monday 16 November, Monday 23 November, Monday 30 November. Karthika Masam begins on Tuesday 10 November, the same day as India, and the last Karthika Monday falls in early December.
When is Karthika Pournami 2026 in Australia?
On Tuesday 24 November. In Sydney the Purnima tithi runs from Tue 24 Nov, 5:12 AM to Wed 25 Nov, 1:53 AM local time, so the full-moon deepam belongs to Tuesday evening.
Do Perth and Brisbane follow the Sydney dates?
Drik Panchang lists the same Karthika dates for Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart and Darwin. Sunrise and evening times differ a lot, though, because Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not use daylight saving, so check local times before an evening puja.
Is Kalabhairav Jayanti in November in Australia?
No. In Australia, as in India, it falls on Tuesday 1 December, just after the end of this calendar.
Editor's note and methodology
Editor's note (9 October 2026): This calendar has been restored at its original address. Daily tithi, nakshatra and sunrise for Sydney are computed with HinduTone's panchang calculator, validated against Drik Panchang (tithi at sunrise matched on every checked date). Australian festival dates are from Drik Panchang's Australian calendar; India dates are from Drik Panchang for Hyderabad. Where we have no Australian date, we show the India date and say so. Times from India are never converted. Traditions vary between communities, so confirm with your temple before a fast.
