Quick answer: the main November 2026 Hindu festivals in Malaysia are Dhanteras on Friday 6 November, Deepavali and Naraka Chaturdashi on Sunday 8 November, Govardhan Puja on Tuesday 10 November, Bhai Dooj on Wednesday 11 November, Devutthana Ekadashi on Saturday 21 November, Tulasi Vivah on Sunday 22 November and Kartika Purnima on Tuesday 24 November.

Deepavali week matches India exactly in Malaysia. The two Vishnu observances at the end of Kartika fall one day later than in India. Below is every day of the month with the tithi at Kuala Lumpur sunrise, the local sunrise and the observances, each linked to that date's full panchang.

November 2026 in Malaysia at a glance

Malaysia's Hindu community, mostly Tamil with Telugu, Malayali, Punjabi and North Indian families as well, celebrates Deepavali as the high point of the year. After the festival comes the Tamil month of Karthigai, with Murugan's Skanda Sashti, the great lamp festival of Karthigai Deepam and, from mid-November, the start of the Ayyappa Mandala season. Telugu families keep the same weeks as Karthika Masam with Monday fasts and evening lamps.

Kuala Lumpur shares UTC+8 with Singapore and runs 2.5 hours ahead of India, with no daylight saving. Sunrise stays almost fixed, from 6:55 AM on 1 November to 7:01 AM on 30 November, and sunset is around 7:01 PM. Being east of India, Malaysia sometimes keeps a festival a day later rather than earlier. In our data the Malaysian dates that differ from India are: Devutthana (Prabodhini) Ekadashi, Tulasi Vivah, Ksheerabdi Dwadashi.

November 2026 Hindu calendar for Malaysia, day by day

Tithi and sunrise are for Kuala Lumpur, computed with HinduTone's panchang calculator, which has been validated against Drik Panchang. Festival dates marked without a note are Drik Panchang's Malaysian dates. Our data has no Malaysian dates for the Karthika observances (start of the month, Mondays, Nagula Chavithi, Skanda Sashti, Karthigai Deepam) or the smaller vrats; for these we show the India date marked "India date": abroad it may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple. A festival is not always kept on the day its tithi is at sunrise: Lakshmi Puja follows the evening and Sankashti follows moonrise.

Deepavali week in Malaysia

Dhanteras on Friday 6 November is the day North Indian and Gujarati families buy a new vessel or a little gold and light a lamp for Yama. For most Malaysian Hindus the festival itself is the morning of Sunday 8 November: an oil bath before dawn to remember Krishna's victory over Narakasura, new clothes, prayers at the family altar and the temple, and then open house with murukku and other sweets for friends of every community. Families who perform Lakshmi Puja do so the same evening; see the Lakshmi Puja muhurat for Malaysian cities.

Govardhan Puja and Annakut follow on Tuesday 10 November and Bhai Dooj on Wednesday 11 November, both the same as India. Tamil women often keep the Kedara Gowri nombu on Deepavali; read Kedar Gauri Vrat 2026. For temples and community events, see must-visit Hindu temples in Malaysia during Diwali and Deepavali 2026 in Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai.

Karthika Masam and the Monday fasts

Karthika Masam begins in India on Tuesday 10 November, and India's November Karthika Mondays are Monday 16 November, Monday 23 November, Monday 30 November. Our data has no Malaysian calculation, so abroad these may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple. Telugu associations and Shiva temples in Malaysia usually publish their own Karthika schedule. See Karthika Masam celebrations and events in Malaysia and Karthika Somavaram 2026.

Nagula Chavithi, the Telugu serpent worship with milk offered at an anthill, is Friday 13 November in India; abroad it may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple. See Nagula Chavithi 2026.

Skanda Sashti

Malaysia's Murugan devotion is famous far beyond the country, best known through Thaipusam at Batu Caves early in the year. Skanda Sashti is its autumn counterpart: six days of fasting and prayer ending in the Soora Samharam, Murugan's victory over Surapadman. In India the Soora Samharam is on Sunday 15 November. We have no Malaysian date, so abroad it may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple. Read Skanda Sashti 2026 in Singapore and Malaysia.

Devutthana Ekadashi and Tulasi Vivah, a day later

Vishnu wakes from his four-month yogic sleep on Devutthana (Prabodhini) Ekadashi, Saturday 21 November in Malaysia, one day after India (Friday 20 November). Tulasi Vivah, the symbolic wedding of the tulasi plant to Vishnu, follows on Sunday 22 November (India: Saturday 21 November). If you fast on Ekadashi, use the Malaysian date and break the fast the next morning. See Karthika Ekadashi and Prabodhini Ekadashi 2026 and Ksheerabdi Dwadashi and Tulasi Vivah 2026.

Kartika Purnima and Karthigai Deepam

Kartika Purnima is Tuesday 24 November in Malaysia, the same as India: the day of Dev Diwali in Varanasi, Karthika Pournami deepam for Telugu homes and Guru Nanak Jayanti for Sikhs. Karthigai Deepam, when Tamil homes fill doorways with clay lamps to recall Shiva's column of fire at Tiruvannamalai, is Tuesday 24 November in India; we have no Malaysian date, so abroad it may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple. Read Karthigai Deepam 2026 for Malaysia and Karthika Pournami 2026.

Vaikuntha Chaturdashi is Monday 23 November in India; no Malaysian date is in our data, so check your local temple.

Other observances this month

Rama Ekadashi (Thursday 5 November in India), Ahoi Ashtami (Sunday 1 November), Chhath Puja (Sunday 15 November), Ravi Pradosh (Sunday 22 November) and Ganadhipa Sankashti (Friday 27 November) have no Malaysian date in our data: abroad they may fall a day earlier or later, so check your local temple. Vrishchika Sankranti is Monday 16 November in India; with it the Sabarimala Mandala season opens, and many Malaysian Ayyappa devotees take the mala for their 41-day vow. See Ayyappa deeksha for NRIs and our November 2026 vrat and fasting days.

Notes for Malaysian families

  • One time zone: Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu all keep UTC+8, but sunrise is earlier in the east, so check Drik Panchang for your own town on a boundary day.
  • Temple calendars: Malaysian temples often follow Tamil almanacs. If your temple's date differs from this page, follow the temple.
  • Open house: if you host friends on Deepavali, plan the oil bath and puja before guests arrive; the sunrise time in the table tells you how early to start.
  • Monsoon: November brings heavy afternoon rain on the east coast and in the Klang Valley. Keep lamps indoors on a metal tray and away from curtains.
  • Fasting and health: if you are pregnant, elderly, diabetic or on medication, keep a light fast with fruit and milk, or ask your doctor first.

Frequently asked questions

When is Deepavali 2026 in Malaysia?

Drik Panchang's Malaysian calendar places Deepavali on Sunday 8 November, the same day as India, with Naraka Chaturdashi also on Sunday 8 November. For Malaysian Tamil families that means the oil bath, new clothes and temple visit all fall on the same Sunday morning.

Which November festivals fall on a different day in Malaysia?

In our data, two: Devutthana Ekadashi is Saturday 21 November in Malaysia (India: Friday 20 November) and Tulasi Vivah is Sunday 22 November (India: Saturday 21 November). Malaysia's clocks are 2.5 hours ahead of India, so Ekadashi reaches a Malaysian sunrise one day later.

When does Karthika Masam start in Malaysia?

We have no Malaysian Karthika calculation, so we give the India date, Tuesday 10 November. Abroad it may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple.

When are Skanda Sashti and Karthigai Deepam 2026 in Malaysia?

In India the Soora Samharam of Skanda Sashti is Sunday 15 November and Karthigai Deepam is Tuesday 24 November. Our data has no Malaysian dates for these, so abroad they may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple's calendar.

Is the date the same in Penang, Ipoh and Johor Bahru?

All of Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak share one time zone (UTC+8). The daily table uses Kuala Lumpur sunrise; in towns further east or west the tithi at sunrise is usually the same, but on a boundary day a temple may follow a slightly different reckoning.

Does Malaysia change its clocks?

No. Malaysia has no daylight saving, so Kuala Lumpur sunrise moves only from 6:55 AM on 1 November to 7:01 AM on 30 November. Times here are local; India's times are never converted.

Editor's note and methodology

Editor's note (9 October 2026): This calendar has been restored at its original address. Daily tithi, nakshatra and sunrise for Kuala Lumpur are computed with HinduTone's panchang calculator, validated against Drik Panchang. Malaysian dates for Deepavali week, Devutthana Ekadashi, Tulasi Vivah and Kartika Purnima are from Drik Panchang; India dates are from Drik Panchang for Hyderabad. Where we have no Malaysian date, we show the India date and say so. Times from India are never converted. Temple and family traditions vary, so confirm with your temple before a fast.
