Below: the whole month with the tithi at Frankfurt sunrise, the German dates side by side with India's, and short notes on each festival for families in Germany.

November in Germany: short days and a compact festival calendar

Germany moved to Central European Time on Sunday 25 October, so for the whole of November it is four and a half hours behind India. In Frankfurt the sun rises at 7:13 AM on 1 November and at 7:58 AM on 30 November, while sunset retreats from 5:03 PM to 4:28 PM. By the full moon, the evening deepam goes up in the dark after an ordinary working day.

Being closer to India than the Americas, Germany shares most festival dates with India. The exceptions this month are: Govardhan Puja, Annakut, Bali Pratipada, Bhai Dooj / Yama Dwitiya. Diwali itself, Naraka Chaturdashi and Dhanteras match India, and so does the start of Karthika Masam.

Diwali week in Germany

Dhanteras is Friday 6 November, a Friday evening for buying a small steel or silver item and lighting a lamp for Yama. In Germany, Naraka Chaturdashi's early oil bath and Diwali's evening Lakshmi Puja both fall on Sunday 8 November, exactly as in India, so the whole festival can be kept on one Sunday. See Lakshmi Puja muhurat 2026 by European city for evening timings worked out from German sunset.

Govardhan Puja and Annakut follow on Monday 9 November and Bhai Dooj on Tuesday 10 November, one day earlier than India's Tuesday 10 November and Wednesday 11 November. Both are working days, so many families cook their Annakut offering in the evening or join the temple on the following weekend. For how Diwali is kept across the continent, read Diwali 2026 celebrations in European countries.

Karthika Masam in Germany (calculated dates)

Our calculation starts Karthika Masam in Germany on Tuesday 10 November, the same day as India, so German families have three Karthika Somavarams in November: Monday 16 November, Monday 23 November, Monday 30 November, with one more in early December. Tamil, Telugu and Kannada families in Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin and the Rhine-Ruhr region keep them with a day fast, an evening lamp and Shiva puja at home or at the temple. See Karthika Masam 2026 in Europe, city by city and Karthika Somavaram 2026 in Europe.

Nagula Chavithi is Friday 13 November in Germany, matching India. Vrishchika Sankranti and Skanda Sashti have no German dates in our data; India keeps them on Monday 16 November and Sunday 15 November, and abroad they may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple. Shiva temples worth visiting are described in general terms in Shiva temples in Europe for Karthika Masam.

Chhath Puja

India's main Chhath evening arghya is Sunday 15 November, followed by the dawn arghya. We have no German date, so abroad it may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple or community. Lakes and rivers in a German November are cold, so many families offer arghya briefly at the shore or with a tub of water at home; see Chhath Puja 2026 arghya times in Europe.

Devutthana Ekadashi, Tulasi Vivah and Karthika Pournami

Devutthana (Prabodhini) Ekadashi, which closes the four months of Chaturmas, is Friday 20 November in Germany, and Tulasi Vivah with the Telugu Ksheerabdi Dwadashi follows on Saturday 21 November. Both match India. See Dev Uthani Ekadashi and Tulsi Vivah 2026 in Europe and Ksheerabdi Dwadashi in Europe.

Vaikuntha Chaturdashi has no German date in our data (India: Monday 23 November); abroad it may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple. Karthika Pournami, Dev Diwali and Tamil Karthigai Deepam fall together on Tuesday 24 November. In Frankfurt the Purnima tithi runs from Mon 23 Nov, 7:13 PM to Tue 24 Nov, 3:54 PM, so it covers Monday evening but ends before Tuesday's sunset; temples differ on which evening the Karthika deepam is lit, so follow yours. Smaller vrats and Kalabhairav Jayanti

Ahoi Ashtami (India: Sunday 1 November), Rama Ekadashi (Thursday 5 November), Masik Shivaratri (Saturday 7 November), Ravi Pradosh (Sunday 22 November), Ganadhipa Sankashti (Friday 27 November) and Kalabhairav Jayanti (Tuesday 1 December) have no German dates in our data: abroad they may fall a day earlier or later — check your local temple. Our November 2026 vrat and fasting days guide explains each one.

Practical notes for families in Germany

  • One date, four cities: Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich and Hamburg share every Karthika date in our calculation; only sunrise and sunset differ.
  • Rented flats: open flames in apartments call for care: use diyas on metal trays, keep them away from curtains and smoke alarms, and consider LED lamps on balconies.
  • Fireworks: private fireworks are generally restricted outside New Year in Germany, so Diwali is usually celebrated with lamps, sweets and puja rather than crackers.
  • Working days: Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj fall on Monday and Tuesday; an evening tilak and meal is the easiest way to keep them.
  • Health: if you are pregnant, older, diabetic or on medication, keep a light fast or ask your doctor first.

Editor's note and methodology

Editor's note (9 October 2026): This calendar has been restored at its original address. Frankfurt's daily tithi, nakshatra and sunrise come from HinduTone's panchang calculator, which matched Drik Panchang's tithi at sunrise on every date we checked. Diwali-week dates for Germany are from Drik Panchang; Karthika dates for German cities are calculated by HinduTone with Drik's rules and validated against Drik data. India dates are from Drik Panchang for Hyderabad. Where there is no German date, we show India's and say so. We never convert Indian times. Please confirm with your temple before a fast.
